Taxidermy Field Care

Field preparation accounts for 90% of the end result of your mount, that’s if you chose the right taxidermist to do the job…

A quality mount begins with proper field care, there is certainly no disappointment greater than that experienced on receiving a mounted trophy that turns out to be substandard and below expectation. The taxidermist is not infallible, but many of the problems stem from the field care preparation and curing before the trophy reaches the taxidermist or tanner.

Our downloadable PDF aims to give the hunter some insight and knowledge into the tried and tested methods of successful field preparation.

If you wish to receive a more detailed outline of specific methods please don’t hesitate to get in touch with the team.

Field Collections

This is a unique service provided by TCI of collecting trophies in the field.  The trips to the most popular hunting area are visited on a monthly bases.

All skins are collected dry salted and folded.  The skulls are buff taped and the smaller ones packed into plastic bags for safe transport.  Security is a principle concern with us so all compartments are locked and bolted.

If you require a visit from our Field Representative, please can you contact him on the below email so that a combined trip can be organized.  andy.pugh@tci.co.zw

Skinning & Preparation Courses

We have been running these courses for a few years now, in the larger conservancy’s. We have also invited PH’s & Outfitters trackers/ skinners to attend.

The courses involved are mainly skinning techniques for different mounting types, cuts, cleaning and preparation of skins for transport etc. As well as Brine and leather care solutions and salt types.

We also managed a bird skinning and preparation course. This was very popular with the skinners as it was all new and exciting for them!
