FIELD CARE
A successful mount starts with proper field care. After the thrill of your hunt, there’s no greater disappointment than receiving a substandard mounted trophy. While taxidermists strive for perfection, many issues arise from inadequate preparation and curing in the field before the trophy reaches the taxidermist or tanner.
Field preparation accounts for 90% of a mount’s success – if paired with the right taxidermist…
To assist hunters, we offer a downloadable PDF with proven methods for effective field preparation.
For more specific guidance, our team is happy to provide a detailed outline tailored to your needs.
Skinning & Preparation Courses
TCI provides specialised training in field preparation for professional hunters, outfitters, trackers, and skinners. These courses, held at large conservancies, cover:
- Skinning techniques for different mounting types.
- Cleaning and preparation of skins for transport.
- Brine and leather care solutions, including salt types.
We’ve also introduced a bird skinning and preparation course, which has been highly popular among participants, offering exciting new skills to enhance their expertise.
Field Collections
TCI offers a unique service of field collections, ensuring your trophies are safely and securely transported to us. We conduct monthly visits to popular hunting areas to collect:
- Dry-salted and folded skins.
- Buff-taped skulls, with smaller skulls packed in plastic for protection.
Security is our top priority – our transport compartments are fully locked and bolted. To organise a visit from our Field Representative, please contact andypugh@tci.co.zw to coordinate a collection trip.
